Locals in These Irish Towns Are Leading the Charge for Environmental Change

Greystones named Ireland’s most environmentally conscious town

A new study by Cork-based electrical experts Buckley Electrical has uncovered Ireland’s most environmentally conscious town. By analysing search behaviour across ten key environment-related terms, including ‘SEAI grant’, ‘recycling centre’, ‘solar panels’, ‘compost bin’, ‘electric car’ and more, they’ve pinpointed which town’s locals try to play their part in protecting the environment the most.

The Most Environmentally Conscious Towns in Ireland

Studying 10 search terms between January 1st, 2021, and January 1st, 2026, Buckley Electrical can reveal that Greystones, Co. Wicklow locals go above and beyond with a score of 570 out of a possible 1,000.

Across Ireland, communities are increasingly prioritising environmental sustainability, with 2025’s Green Flag Awards recognising the country’s top green spaces:

Co. Dublin leads the way with 40 Green Flag Awards, showcasing the highest number of award-winning parks.
Co. Cork follows with six Green Flag Awards, while Co. Galway and Co. Louth received five each.
On a community scale, Co. Galway and Co. Wexford received the most Green Flag Community Awards with four each.

These efforts and awards demonstrate the growing commitment to sustainability at both a community and county level across Ireland.

Buckley Electrical assessed a range of freely available information, including Google Trends searches for 10 environmental terms like ‘recycling’, ‘solar panels’, ‘electric bike’. Green Flag Award data was also reviewed to highlight where recognised green spaces and community-led environmental initiatives are most prominent across the country.
