There are more than 50 million metric tonnes of e-waste generated globally each year, but which US State is making the most conscious effort to engage in the circular economy and cut down on this waste?
E-waste is a massive problem facing not just the US, but the entire planet. Most modern electronics contain harmful and toxic materials like mercury, lead, cadmium, lithium and beryllium. When these devices are sent to landfill, these toxins are released and begin to leach into the soil. Over time these toxins subsequently reach the water table, devastating the local ecosystem. By recycling, refurbishing and reusing electronic devices we're helping to avoid this damage”

The Growing E-Waste Issue
The most recent figures we have available show that only around 17.4% of e-waste was properly documented and recycled over a 12 month period. This is a huge amount of potentially hazardous and toxic materials that are being left to pollute the environment. Wisetek is committed to working with companies to address this situation and address the remaining 82% that stands to negatively impact the environment

Data Explained - Information was compiled by examining the number of searches for 10 specific search terms (apple refurbished, refurbished, ipad pro used, refurbished ipad, refurbished iphone, electronics recycling near me, apple refurbished iphone, refurbished apple watch, apple watch refurbished, iphone refurbished) The Google search interest for these terms was then examined on a state by state basis and added together in order to determine the most interested state. Digital Funnel utilised Google’s ‘Interest by Region’ metric. Values are calculated on a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 is the location with the most popularity as a fraction of total searches in that location, a value of 50 indicates a location which is half as popular. A value of 0 indicates a location where there was not enough data for this term. A higher value means a higher proportion of all queries, not a higher absolute query count. So a tiny country where 80% of the queries are for "bananas" will get twice the score of a giant country where only 40% of the queries are for "bananas". States were given an overall score out of 1000 as there were 10 search terms examined.
